Why this blog?

I was born in 1976 with facial paralysis and severe deafness (I wear two hearing-aids). Throughout the years there have been several diagnosis to explain the facial paralysis...the most recent being in 2011. I have a condition called Cranial Metaphyseal Dysplasia (originally it was believed I had Mobius Syndrome). There is a 50% chance of passing this condition on to any children.

My partner, Malcolm, and I have decided to explore the possibility of using Genetic Pre-Implantation Diagnosis (GPD) to assist us in having our own family.

Anyway, I have always wanted to publish a book telling/depicting my life dealing with this condition, so the purpose of this blog is to record my thoughts and stories about living with facial paralysis and, most importantly, tell the story of beginning our family. There is no particular order to my posts...just whatever comes up or pops into my mind.

I am fortunate to have a wonderful family who have never let this condition get in the way of me having a normal childhood, and who have always supported me in my goals, triumphs and failures.

I have been teaching primary school children since 2000, and live with my wonderful partner, Malcolm.
